Hello Everyone,

I am a current post-bachelor student (informal) and I have been taking post-bachelor classes and been doing well in them. I have been receiving all A's up until this semester and right now I have 3 A's and a C or D in a Developmental Biology course. I was going to take a W and withdraw from the course just do that it doesn't damage all of the post-bachelor work I have done so far but now after contacting the professor it is a WF that will be recorded rather than a simple W. Now I am lost as to whether I should take a WF or try to finish out the course and raise my grade. There are 2 exams left. The material is EXTREMELY boring and irrelevant. When I registered for the course I assumed it was a course similar to embryology but instead it is about spiders, frogs, mice, etc. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies guys, it is still "possible" for me to even technically get a B in the course but according to the professor "if you do not miss another question on the quizzes and exams, the highest that you can get is an 84" which I would take in a heartbeat, I just don't know how attainable that is...not missing another question.

I also emailed him to see if he could help me out an raise my grade to passing so that I can drop with a WP but I'm pretty sure that is a futile attempt and he will likely say no

Don't double post with pre-allo.

If it is developmental biology, then you are probably learning the development of all organisms. I know when I had developmental bio it was a lot about slime molds and such to learn about the how and why cells differentiate.

If I were to guess, you professor probably believes or has stated that "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" at some point. If you look at it from that lens, then what he/she is doing makes sense. Stick it out. The good stuff will be at the end.

If you are applying DO, take the class again and use the grade replacement. The knowledge that you gained the first time through will help you understand WHY the background is important. Then you can get an A.

I also agree with the above, don't double (tripple) post.

The OP fails to see that undergraduate biology education is geared mostly to careers in research. If you learn a lot about mice, rats, fruit flies, etc., you will be vastly more prepared for your career in research as these are model organisms than if you just learn plain human development.
