I'm in the Guaranteed Admit Med Program at Pitt and I was wondering if it would help or hurt me to put this in my application or in some other form divulge this info to admissions committees for

(a) summer research programs/fellowships
(b) medical schools

If you are guarantee a spot in med school then why are you even applying elsewhere, save the $$$ spent on primary and secondaries to buy something nice.

I personally would not mention it, PITT will know but dont tell other school.

+1 👍

University of Pittsburgh is among the best medical schools in the country. If you want to go elsewhere, think about it for your residency.

If one of your LOR mentions that you are in the GAP program and you do not tell, then it might look like your being deceptive. I would be honest. If I was on an adcom, I would not hold that against you. Why should they care! It is not like Pitt can’t get other qualified applicants. You can not get much better that Pitt , so relax .

(a) sure, why not. it'll give you a competitive edge to get those research positions.

(b) i'm confused. are you planning to apply to other medical schools? :scared: have you run this by your program??! i would be very wary of doing so. they have made a committed investment in your education, and they do not hold that lightly. don't bite the hand that feeds you. i've heard that programs like that have conditions that if you apply to other schools you automatically forfeit your spot. other schools will also recognize this "betrayal" of sorts, or view it in at least the same light of turning down a previous acceptance. i mean this in the best way, don't get greedy!

please correct me if i'm wrong or if i misinterpreted your position. gl!

I would absolutely not put that information on your AMCAS or mention elsewhere if you apply to med schools. Unless you're an outstanding applicant, why would I accept you if I knew you had a spot already at a school?

This is of course assuming that you're allowed to apply outside of the program with no repercussions.

I would not put it. I think putting it on the app can only hurt you.
