I recently got accepted to the University of Washington Minority Medical Education Program (MMEP). I'm also applying to their school of medicine right now. I'm looking for some advice on whether or not I should tell the SOM that I'm doing the summer program. On the one hand, MMEP is an enrichment program, so you'd think it could only help. Still, I'm worried that they'll want to see how I do in the program and reject me this year. Am I being completely paranoid? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Congrats on getting in! I did the Yale one last summer. My situation was sort of similar to yours - at my Columbia interview, the minority affairs dean of admission (I think that's his title) had remembered my name when I applied to their site. I felt a little embarrassed, because I had intially accepted the columbia site then rescinded my acceptance when I got into Yale - and he knew that. Overall, he was very positive and even semi-joked about it. So, I would think that mentioning it will only help you!

Thanks for your thoughts E'01. I think I'll fax the acceptance letter to the admissions office tomorrow.

no problem 🙂 If you don't mind me saying, you might want to write a brief letter explaining your acceptance highlighting why you think the program will be beneficial to you, rather than just faxing the letter to them. I'm sure you already mentioned this in your MMEP essay, but you can state in a few words how happy you are to attend and what you will gain from the program etc. Good luck!
