Hi, so my score's have actually decreased as I do more practice VR section believe it or not. My issue is and has always been I'm missing important sentences. I understand the main idea and the tone, I have no problem with those questions. When I look at the responses for my incorrect answers, it's always something like, "Look in paragraph 2..."

Someone on this forum posted an interesting strategy. Obviously my strategy isn't working as I score 6-7 on VR, so I probably need to change it. He or She suggested that after every big paragraph, stop, and answer all the questions that pertain to that paragraph. I think that this would benefit me because I seem to forget some parts of the passage.

Here are some points about me.

I know about the strategy about pretending that the passage is directed at me. I ask myself questions like, "How would I respond to this claim?" This is good for main idea questions but that's not my issue here.

I write down the main idea of the passage, and I try to match the questions/answers with what I wrote.

I usually finish with 7-10 minutes left. And I spend that time going over marked questions. This sometimes helps, and sometimes it doesn't.

Your help would be much appreciated.

well it seems like time isn't your issue which is nice. It seems as though maybe your reading the passage improperly. so try different strategies that are directed towards that. focus on understanding the passages's more.

i've tried alot of different techniques and what works for me is:

I think you just need to take your time read every word of the passage and understand it. Then do the questions quickly. Out of 7 min i spend 4 reading the paragraph and 3 reading q's. when i read i hear every word in my head and i read slow. Its kinda counterintuitive but i've been doing pretty well with that technique. When i was reviewing i realized i was missing q's because i needed to read the passage better somehow. I think it helped me get those detail questions.

Try to read a bit slower. Do a passage or two untimed. If you can get the most of the questions right, it means you have the capacity to score high. The rest is to practice the balance between going fast vs slow, main idea vs detail.
