I have yet to hear from all but one of the my schools. It sounds like everyone is hearing from everywhere. Does this mean I am on the cusp? Should I send them an update about the last four months of my life?

What I've been hearing is that if you think you did something significant, you should. Even if you have done anything significant, though, it might help to send them something just to
a) remind them that you're here, and
b) let them know that you REALLY want to go to their school.
But that's just me; I don't know what everyone else thinks. You can trying calling the schools and asking them.

I was wondering the same thing--and also about the format. Is all right to discuss the experience I've gained in the body of a formal letter? I sent my transcripts to all my schools, but should I mention my grades in the update letter as well? Any advice you guys have would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would discuss your experience in the letter but the transcripts can speak for themselves (unless there's a special reason you want to mention them, like a significant upward trend in your grades maybe?)

Now keep in mind this is only for WSU, but early January I asked them if it would be alright for me to send them an update letter. I got a new, and cool research job right after I sent in my application back in Oct.

They said no. No letter. If I was granted an interview, I should just tell them during the interview. They wouldn't take any letter into consideration.

So you should ask before you send, otherwise you could just be wasting your efforts.

I sent a letter to schools when my fall grades came out just telling them that transcripts were on the way, but here's my grades just in case. I also included a sentence or two on extra hours I had acquired since I submitted VMCAS.

I sent email updates to schools (I emailed first and asked if an update would be okay.) A few schools said no (CSU, PEI) and some were really enthusiastic and thought it was be great (Western, Mississippi State, a few more ....)

Did you just send your update in an E-mail? I already sent my transcript, but have been doing a lot more (animal club work, many more hours vet experience, shelter work) since I sent my application. I thought this was something to discuss at the interviews, but since I only have one so far, it sounds like I should E-mail them and the others I haven't heard from, ask if I could send them an update, and then do so. Sound like an okay plan?

That's what I did. I few schools didn't respond to my email- I should probably call- but I'm guessing they don't want updates.
