At the end of my first, and in my opinion very good interview, the interviewer gave me his email and said 'if' I get in to email because he wanted to put me in touch with some people. The interview was very enjoyable and he was surprisingly from the same area as myself. Is it ok to write him an email thanking him for the interview, or is that to informal.

I'm an older nontrad, so maybe I'm old school... but I think it's always a good idea to follow up with a handwritten thank-you (especially for an interview where there was a personal connection). A bit more effort, but these things count.

Agreed. It's probably not going to do much good, but it certainly won't hurt. If you can get his mailing address, a written note is probably more appropriate, but if he personally gave you his email, that is also fine.

As I understand it, writing a thank you letter won't help you, but NOT writing a think you letter often will hurt you. So in other words... yes, you should write the letter/email
