I applied to 30 medical schools about 2 years ago and withdrawed after changing my mind and getting exposed to dental field during the application process. Should i mention i switched from med to dental in a personal statement or will they assume u switched?

also is it absolutely neccessary to write down the 30 med schools in AADSAS, i dont think theres enoughroom.

help?

all right thanks, ill just leave it out and talk about my first exposure to dentistry and how that influenced my decisions.

you guys are saying no to not mentioning i ever considered medicine in ps or no to now listing the 30 med schoools? but that would be considered lying rihgt?

I don't see anything wrong with mentioning that you were considering medicine two years ago. People on here treat the med to dental switch like the plague because some premeds miraculously find their inner dental self after getting their last med school rejection letter. That doesn't seem to be the case with you. Honestly guys, how many of us told our first grade teacher that we were going to be a dentist when we grew up? Not saying it doesn't happen, just saying that most of us switch majors/goals during college and it's ok. Should you include it in your PS? That's up to you, if you feel like it helps you, go for it.

Your personal statement should explain your interest in the dental field. Don't list why you switched or the amount of med schools you applied to. The personal statement doesn't ask you if you had a change of heart or not. Why did you switch from med to dental?? Explain the dental experience you had that made you want to become a dentist instead.

Past love affairs do not belong in a ps.

I don't know about this. You shouldn't write too much about your applying to medical school but write about actually stopping to think about what you want to do and finding dentistry. Talk about the postives you found in the dental field. Definitely touch on it but don't put too many details...leave that for the interview. Dental schools will like the fact that you had the maturity to think about what you wanted to do before attending. So many kids want to enter the medical field without even thinking twice.

thanks...any other suggestions?

i know dentistry involves art and science...is it necessary to talk about art side? or can i focus mainly on service?

how about interviews? how should iaddress my previousmedschool attempts? i really had a change of heart and know dentistry fits me better.

yes service is usually a given. you definitely want to show them that you are committed to service but usually the work you've done is more convincing than just talking about it. you should talk about the art side of things because it will set your application apart and make you look well-rounded.

This is good advice.
