Should Patients Tips ($) Us!?

Everyone is asking for a tip nowadays. I am not talking about taxi cab drivers and waitresses. I am talking about people that work at starbucks, people that work at fast food chains, pretty much anybody that offer customer services.

Now, shouldn't people that work at pharmacies also leave a tip bucket at the pharmacy counter and elicit tips? I think we should, not only because we are not exactly being paid for our services, but also because we offer good customer services!

This thread is not meant to be taken seriously but I want to hear your opinions!
 
One senior couple at my pharmacy gave me a Christmas card with a five dollar tip inside it. I know it's not a lot, but considering their limited income, I thought it was a really nice gesture of appreciation.

...of course, the kind of people that would tip you are probably the same regular customers/patients who will always give you a smile and friendly greeting that offsets the previous three grumpy @$$holes, making it worthwhile.
 
No, I think instead we should charge them on a sliding scale based on how much of an a$$hole they are. 😀
 
I guess that wouldn't be that bad of an idea, but I still like it better the way it is now - providing health information to the public free of charge. That's one of the things that define us.

if we ask for tips, we are gonna be one step closer to being seen totally as a fast service person. Doctors and dentists dont ask for tip, starbucks and delievery boys doo. Which would you rather be associated with?
 
Physicians and dentists don't have drive-thru's either. Might as well go ahead and put out the tip jar - it's too late to recover from the "fast-food" service mentality the public has now. The addition of the drive-thru pharmacy is one of the worst decisions the pharmacy profession as a whole has embraced. Just my humble opinion.

My old boss said pharmacy was ruined by 2 things, insurance and the drive though. I think he is 100% correct

And the number of drugs sold and the costs of those drugs have gone up 43252464363%, making the reduction in markup negligible. There's a reason why a market can support so many more pharmacies nowadays with higher pharmacist wages.

We are just putting a tip jar, not asking for a tip directly. If they like our service then they can show us appreciation with a small tip. hehe

Pharmacists are different from doctors and dentists because we are not exactly getting paid for our "service". We are being paid for our products for now at least. Maybe the Medicare plan will change things but we will see.

One of my neighbors used to run a hopsital pharmacy (started 30 yrs ago, retired and went into another position 5 yrs ago). He said that when he started, drugs always used to turn a huge profit for the hospital and now they are quite often responsible for huge losses.
