lots of negativity on this forum regarding cvs and walgreens, but as a customer I wanted to chime in and just say how impressed I am with the service. I've been getting my prescriptions there for the last 4 months or so. Never a hitch. Always fast. I'm never pestered with questions. Efficient and accurate- the way I like it.

Before this I was going to an independent pharmacy, and it was more of a hassle. For one there wasn't the very quick and efficient automated refill system I can count on with cvs. Sometimes you want to talk to a person on the other end of the phone, and sometimes you don't. Pushing a few buttons is a much more pleasant way to know my refill is ready than having an unneeded conversation on the phone with a stranger. Additionally, on a couple of occasions the independent has not had(for whatever reason?) a prescription. I don't have the time or inclination to split my prescriptions up. At CVS I've never run into this problem.

Maybe it's the increased volume of CVS relative to the independent which keeps things running so smooth. But I feel like the independent just didn't have things going as smoothly(for me, remember I am the customer) as CVS.

Oh another thing....the drive through at CVS is fast and always moving. The independent pharmacy only got a drive through recently, and it isn't nearly as efficient.

I'd like to give a shout out to my local Chipotle. They always infuse their rice with cilantro and lime just right. They are always willing to give me double fajita veggies. Their chicken is always perfectly cooked. And their tomato salsa is always delicious. I ask for two scoops, typically. They do oblige.

Some people like the personal attention and others like being treated like a slave going down to the store to get into their pod for reeducation.

Immediately came to mind:

But really, that is something that has always made me hesitant to consider pharmacy ownership. The big corporation can afford the bells and whistles that mom and pop can't. Better computer system, IVR, drive thru, workload balancing, inventory management, etc. Big fish eventually eats the little fish.

but even that rather well done onion article isn't a perfect analogy here because at coffee/pastry shops there *is* some degree of difference and room to stand out/separate from competition in terms of the actual product(and not just the service around it). For example, Atlanta bread company bagels are bland imo, but panera seems to have a little more kick.

But in pharmacy, there is no way to do that on the product itself. 5mg lisinopril is 5mg lisinopril.

The end product is the same, but the convenience factor will likely tip the scales in the favor of the bigger company. I know of very few indy pharmacies that let you order refills online, and none of them have an app you can check to see when it's ready. Chain will have longer hours in most cases, and probably a drive-thru, which is less likely for the indy. So yes, while the final product is the same, there is less work required to get it, and people can really enjoy laziness.

Yum Chipotle.
