Can someone tell me if its true that the apartments on the Island of Dominica have no showers?
WHAT?!??!
😀
😀 That's a good one!
Yes, when I was there, we all bathed in the river or stood outside during a heavy downpour.
Of course there are showers in the apartments around the school! However, in most places, there are no hot water tanks. The water is heated by an electric showerhead that heats it up as the water is pouring through it. It doesn't get very hot, but it's good enough to take a shower with. It is not the U.S. - you will find that out quick enough. But, it's not so barbaric that you need to go out and kill your own dinner every night or anything either.

Does anyone know the best way to obtain cheaper fares to the island? I was going to fly down and check out Ross, but the air fares are VERY high. Thank you very much. 🙂
Good idea to fly down and check it out first. There are
ALWAYS a few students in each class who fly down to start school, and turn around and fly right back the same day. It's good to be mentally prepared about what you're getting yourself into.
As far as fares, it depends on where you're flying from. Typically, if you can get to Ft. Lauderdale (say fairly cheaply on Southwest or something), and then get a deal on one of the smaller airlines that flies to Antigua, you can fly into Dominica on Liat or Caribbean Star for a lot less than you can on American Eagle. You sacrifice convenience and speed of getting there, though.
Search around on the web. You're bound to find some deals. Just get creative.
Good luck!
