Hey Everyone!

Now that the application/interview process is over, I would like to express my gratitude to the professionals who have written my LORs. I was curious to see how others have either done this in the past, or how you plan on doing it this application cycle. I was planning on purchasing cards but also wanted to do something a little more while remaining on a budget. Any insight?

TIA!

I thanked everyone with a card and chocolate/baked goods. Most vets really appreciated food 😉

A 10-pack of plain thank you cards and postage shouldn't cost you most than $10, even if you have 6 evaluators. Vets always appreciate edible goodies, too...

I plan on sending out cards once I am able to make a decision on a school. That way, I can include that in the note. Most of my evaluators are now quite a distance away from me, so sending them cookies (I can't afford those mail order cookies) or stopping by for an in-person thank you (other than my initial thank yous) is not gonna happen.

I wrote thank you cards and brought in chocolates/donuts for the clinic staff.

I wrote my thank you's right before the holidays (wanted to thank them since it has been several months since they actually wrote my LOR's, and barring an acceptance or not I felt the need to thank them). I wrote a long message to each person in a card, and for those who are DVMs, I also purchased a really neat vet med symbol ornament from Etsy which was only about $10, and filled a small gift bag with candy and the ornament. Both DVM's mentioned how cute they thought it was and hadn't gotten anything like that before! So if you wanted to do more than a card you could probably google and find something cheap and cute and related to vet med. My non-DVM's just simply got a card or a call saying thanks!

What if you don't see your recommenders often? Like they work and live far so a visit is sorta out of the question given a busy work schedule? I really want to give them a goody bag with a nice thoughtful gift and card as @GretaBug3 did. Could I mail it or would that seem insincere?

One of mine lives half way across they country from me and I sent him a gift and card in the mail an he loved it. If your thoughtful about it it won't come across as insincere!

One of my evaluators is now 1000 milea away. Can't exactly stop by.

I sent Edible Arrangements after my first acceptance (not that I wouldn't have done something if I hadn't been accepted but it seemed like a good time to thank them!), which did get pricey but I saved some money by delivering myself the ones nearby, which was 3 out of the 4.

Totally not insincere! And who doesn't love getting little surprises in the mail!?!?

I made a donation to Heifer International in the name of each of the people who recommended me (I had five supporters). Heifer provided me with beautiful 'honor cards' which featured all the species of animals supplied by the organization. Seemed to go over nicely with the recipients. Congrats, c/o 2019!

I did $10 gift cards to local coffee shops - but I like Lab Vet's idea of donating to an organization in their name!

I hand delivered gourmet chocolate bars paired with stone brewery beer in an organza bag. Was only about $10 each with a thank you card that I already had a box of. I wanted to give them something classy but thoughtful.
