SHPEP results came out today and I'm incredibly grateful to have been accepted to SHPEP @ UCLA for this upcoming summer. Everywhere I can find makes it seem like an amazing program with the expenses covered & a small stipend, my only concern is just that I'm completely financially independent and as such I'd still be financially responsible for paying rent at my current apartment while I'm out of state living in California. Finances are a bit tight and I largely rely on working full-time for my income, which from my understanding I wouldn't be able to do while participating in SHPEP.

I suppose my question is if it would it be worthwhile to take out a $1.5k subsidized loan in order to participate without worrying in SHPEP? Is the program seen as advantageous/the information the program offers advantageous enough to consider taking on that debt?

Thanks!

Congratulations! I think you need to ask your financial aid office about how you could increase the loan amount.

Most people would try to find someone (trustworthy) to sublease your place. I know it might not be that easy depending on the conditions of your lease. I don't know if there is anyone you can ask among your housing management.

I didn't think of subleasing, thank you!!
