Apparently Obama is blabbing about the healthcare disaster bill again today. Anybody else have that feeling when he talks it's just background noise, "blah blah blah"? All I hear when he moves his lips is either ignorance and/or corruption.

Think that cynical? OK, why is the government backing almost all mortgages now? It's ignorant because it will add to the bankruptcy of our country forcing taxpayers to cover for deadbeats, as well as giving more incentive for lenders to loan to deadbeats that shouldn't get loans. It's corrupt because Obama was number 3 in receiving Fannie/Freddie donations as a Senator and is repaying favors.

Like I said, he speaks, I hear ignorance and/or corruption and "blah blah blah."

You had me at 'Shut Up Obama'!

I disagree with him, must be that he just hasn't explained it in basic enough terms, or the republicans and fox have misled me, me stupid, i couldn't possibly honestly disagree with him. i have to go prepare for some brainwashing from the overlord. i've failed at receiving his message from the mountaintop so far.

If Obama use reconciliation to pass his Obama care, the republicans can reverse it back using the same strategy in three years. And Obama knows it.

My prediction? The house will pass the senate bill with the "hope" that it will be fixed ...and Obama will just sign the senate bill. The reconciliation talk is a smoking screen to convince enough house dems to go along.

Would be funny if someone came up with Ke$ha's song while Obama was talking.... Would go something like this: comin' outa your mouth with your blah, blah, blah....I'm talkin' 'bout blah, blah, blah..."😀

Another great poster. Everyday I scratch my head, How in Hell did this guy become President?

With McCain-Palin as opposition, how could he not have?

I ask myself how W got to be elected twice. I guess I have Osama to thank for the second one at least.

Maybe its just me, but I don't find a problem with Obama talking. Nor do I find a problem with Fox News talking or BBC or Al-Jazzera. Let me make my own decision on what I want to watch.. 🙂

I guess I don't try to box myself into a category ie. Rep,Dem,Soc,Com,etc..

Plus, just because I heard what he had to say, doesn't mean that someone else shouldn't have the chance.. World doesn't revolve around me.

I wonder how many here are members of the tea party "movement"?
Glen Beck would be proud if he ever reads this forum.

Even if not "organized" tea party stuff, it seems many of us are just as fed up with the government being out of control as the next guy.

As for Glen Beck, I'm not sure how I feel about him.....

That is basically my point. How could Dems or Repubs have not come up with somebody better than this?? I am neither Dem or Repub. Tax cuts isn't the answer to us being broke, neither is more wasteful spending. A 5th grader should have enough intelligence to know this. Aunt Bee, the idiot's economic advisor, says we need to borrow and blow more cash (to basically prop up Obama as a savior and dump a more massive problem on someone else).

http://www.cnbc.com/id/35776700

A more accurate assessment is that this cast of thieves has just blown a trillion dollars of your money and have somehow done it without massive outrage.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/35775412

So true.👍

I agree, too, that the Keynesian's are smoking some serious crack. Time to shift to the Austrian School.

But, who gains from all of this debt? This is why it's hard to make a "paradigm" shift within the ranks of our "economic thought leaders".....

Exactly. Granted, anybody from the incumbent's party would've been in trouble, given a tanking economy and two long ongoing wars.

I ask myself how W got to be elected twice.

With Gore and Kery as opposition, how could he not have? 🙂

They probably could have, but the people weren't going to elect someone who openly, honestly talked about the specific, painful, inconvenient price they'd have to pay for meaningful reform.

As bad as the economy has been the last 1-2 years ... honestly, we all know that the average person hasn't felt much.
  • Homes were being foreclosed, but those people didn't move into tents. They rented apartments or houses, and their credit scores dropped 200 points.
  • Jobs were being lost, but those people had unemployment benefits. No one is starving, North Korea style.
  • Deficit spending is way up, but cities haven't appreciably cut services anywhere. The police still come when you call 911. The fire department is still staffed. Teachers are getting paid and schools are still open.
Life has gone on, as usual, just about everywhere.

Honestly, I haven't been inconvenienced a bit by this huge recession. Neither have most people I know. And for the ~20% (?) of the population who have been directly affected ... they still have food, shelter, clothing, security. The national debt is just a number to them. They hear "quantitative easement" and have no clue what it means.

We'll have bread lines and rampant violent crime before either party puts forth an "electable" presidential candidate who offers more than confidently expressed, easy "solutions" ...

I agree that it was largely bad timing and a few big mis-steps that did McCain in. He was running neck and neck (or maybe leading, I don't remember) until the economy tanked. Then he made that weird move to suspend his campaign and tried to call off the debate. That totally backfired. Then that one aide made a bad comment about sucking it up, and he brought on Sarah. It was done after that.

Touche, my good man.

I disagree that the Keynesian school is smoking crack. It's just that we haven't followed Keynes' paradigm in too long. Keynes says we need to build up surpluses in good years to pay for the bad. So, in any given 15-20 year time-frame, America should run budget-neutral. When's the last 20 year period where America's yearly budgets and revenue's evened out? I'd have to look it up, but I'm guess it's not in the last 50 years...

The real issue is that for that last 25 years, politicians have largely benefited from budget deficits. Immediate gratification almost always trumps delayed. That's why we see Democrats and Republicans alike spending with no restraint. I agree with pgg that we're going to have to see huge social upset before a new breed of candidate gets elected. One that tells the economic truth and doesn't give us empty promises of rainbows and free candy for everyone.

Isn't it great to live in a country where you can go on the internet and call the president a liar and not be concerned about any consequences?
I have lived in many countries where this would be a big mistake especially when you have nothing but opposing party propaganda to support you.
I love the U.S.

We won't have a new breed of candidate until we have term limits and campaign finance reform. Our so-called representatives have every incentive to cheat steal lie and accept bribes, so why would anyone be surprised when they won't represent our long term interests? Something needs to be done to make the politicians personal interests better align with the long term interests of the general population. Unfortunately, the more they borrow and spend the better it is for their careers, and the worse it is for the country. If they couldn't run for re-election, they'd have less incentive to sell out the country and no incentive to accept bribes/campaign contributions.

It is great. Let's pray it stays that way after the currency meltdown.

Excellent post. Like Gypsy says, doing whatever it takes to be reelected, even if it means selling out the future of the U.S.

The 10th Amendment was particularly good thinking.

You can't expect anyone to limit their own power so the constitution does it for them.

If only it was still in force...

I totally agree. Even in the situation Greece is currently in, they are protesting the cutbacks (at the final hour and because of what you stated in bold) and marching in the steets. It's interesting to follow because we may not be too far behind.

Check this out..... And this is from a country in which it's blatantly obvious that we need a MORE rigorous education policy in order to compete globally.

Oh Hell Yes we are not far behind!! We are more broke than Greece. The US is the squeegee man of governments at a red light with a cup in his hand! The federal government is picking up the tab for EVERYBODY; California, mortgages, banks,... you friggin name it!

What we have delaying our meltdown for now is a number of governments around the world that have nothing better to do with their money than throw it down our endless sinkhole of debt. And as that proves insufficient to hold off the ponzi, we then have a money printing press. Sure as night follows day, our time is coming.

well watch your reimbursement for your services decrease over the years while the insurance company is becoming a billion dollar richer. socialized medicine won't make it better but you all have to do something about the insurance companies by lobbying for more controls over the reimbursement....

We don't need big government to come in and save the day, especially since they have a long history of making things worse. What we need is a relaxation of anti-trust law's bias against physicians. Since we are viewed as independent contractors and not as employees, we have basically no right to negotiate or organise. Fix that.

Eta, this is totally off topic, but why is your sig "Carla Bruni Complex?" Are you married to a short Frenchman? Are you a model with a new singing career? What gives?

In the 2000's he might have added mismanagement by health insurance companies and inflated incomes of health company execs.

 All of the above. No JK

I think she's a smart girl, pretty and quite sexy and she wears her power gracefully. She moves quick too and married well. If I had an alter ego, it'd probably be her.

Cool. Just curious!

I'm not typically very anti-Obama but I *do* think the title of this thread is pure, earnest, and hilarious.

I have been frequently running into the situation of cursing his name when patients and families think we already have the incredible fully integrated transnational psychic wireless electronic medical record he's been promising. A typical H+P goes something like:

"So what medications are you taking currently?"
"Oh, I have *no* idea, isn't that in the computer?"

"Do you know if you've ever had an ultrasound of your heart?"
"Oh, I have *no* idea, isn't that in the computer?"

"And did you have chemotherapy or radiation for your cancer?"
"Oh please stop asking me all these questions! Isn't this all in the computer?"

How true. I'm still shocked at how little people know about what the hell they take and for what....

HOWEVER, in my experience, physicians are pretty horrible at communicating even something as paramount as a diagnosis. I can't believe how many patients leave the hospital having very little clue what they were actually treated for, and why.... Surely, Pts have a responsibility to ask, but physicians should be communicating more effectively, IMHO.

And I don't mean Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/35810290

"Athens' streets echoed with loud-speakers blaring slogans calling for the rich to pay for a severe debt crisis, as thousands marched against cuts in civil servants' income, tax hikes, a pension freeze and increase in the retirement age."

Country broke, taxes up, entitlements down, the rich suck, civil unrest. Sounds like an American preview. Greece voted in the Socialist party 5 months ago. We voted in Obama. Ain't no happy ending to this fairy tail.
