this is my first time taking the mcat... after the test the only thing i felt confident about was the verbal (which is typically my higher score on all practice tests). the verbal was the only section i finished on time and felt ok about, the sciences were so wishy washy i seriously had no ****ing clue what may have happened.

i ended up with a 10PS 10BS and 8V. 28Q.

the last time i got an 8 was on my kaplan diagnostic. on aamc 9, the last test i took before the real deal - i got a 12 on the verbal.

i'm floored, and upset that i have to retake.... does anyone think i should apply with this?

but most schools take your best section on each right? do i really have to study the other two sections as hard again?

i think i may be in a better position to apply next year, as i may have a first author paper and have a position at NIH. also i'll be applying much earlier.

any feedback..?

I wouldn't give up hope yet. 28 is not a horrible score, I've heard that if it's over 27 you should probably still apply. The extracurriculars and grades will carry a fair amount of weight as well.

gpa is solid but not incredible, about 3.8 overall, 3.5-3.6 science at top ten undergrad institution. extracurriculars include lots of research (social and basic sciences), on a national board for stem cell research, started a stem cell chapter at my university and founded an act prep program for underprivileged students, work at NIH, and tutoring and mentoring. the manuscript in writing...hopefully to be published is on underrep. minorities in medicine.

my homestate is wisconsin.

Uh...I'd apply.

Without question, I would apply. Seriously, I can't believe that this is a question. Good luck.. you will succeed.

Was already answered.

You never answered any of my questions. What's your GPA like??? What is your homestate??? What are your ECs like???

Definitely apply now, sotired. You have a decent score, not a bad one. With a good GPA from a school, you definitely have a good shot.

Also, most schools do not take your best section on each. I know Tufts does and I think U of Utah might, but not many do. Most schools take your best MCAT examination, not section score.
