Hey,

I was commissioned for the Af Hsps beginning MS2. First year tuition at my school was $50,000. Does anyone know if there is any way to make my scholarship retroactive by one year, increasing my committment or anything?

Thanks

No. There is no way to do retroactive. Government contract law prohibits such practice.

Best you can hope for is Health Professions Loan Repayment Program.
You would be eiligible for 2 years of HPLRP and that would pay off most of the $50k. In return you would owe an additional 2 years.

Thanks for the response. Is there any appeals process or ombudsman who can make an exception?

No. This is a matter of law. It will literally take an act of Congress for this to change.

I was accepted for HPSP in December, during the Winter quarter, but my name is still in scroll. If I move into the next quarter before my name comes out of scroll, will the tuition payment retro back to December, or will it only pay for the point of final acceptance forward?

HPSP entitlements are based on something known as your benefit start date (BSD).

Your BSD is based on the latest of 3 dates
1) The day you sign your contract
2) The day you sign your oath
3) The day school starts

1 and 2 usually happen at the same time. Since school has already started for you, your benefits start on the day you sign your contract/oath. If you are in a new term, prior terms cannot be paid for.
