If I have a 3.80 science gpa would it be worth it to take a few extra science classes to boost it to a 3.85? Is the difference between a 3.8 and 3.9 significant?

There is no significant difference. With a 3.80 I would not recommend to retake a class. It would be expected that you get a higher grade and a class anyway. Once you reach a certain level/gpa it is pointless (in my honest opinion) to retake a class and I think you are at that point. You should be proud of a 3.8. But I fear that admissions committees would see it as you are simply chasing the A, unlike those with lower gpa's who should retake a class or two. If it is not lower than a C, I wouldn't retake a class. Even then, one C on your transcript will not keep you out of med school by any means. I would focus on your mcat have you taken it yet?

My apologies, I don't know why but i read it as retake!!! If you are just taking extra classes then that is okay I think I don't see any harm. But still I would say no major difference if you ask me

If they are not required, no it will not make a difference. Focus on your extracurriculars and coming up with good content for your essays.

Unless you're thinking about padding with easy classes, there's also a chance that 3.80 could decrease with those extra classes. So you could do decently well, get like a 3.75 for the new science classes, and still see a decline!

Would a one-year post bacc of 3.8 vs. 3.9 make any difference?

No. Don't take extra classes. A 3.8 is good enough to get in anywhere. At this point, keep in mind that an A- will lower your GPA. So don't even think about it.

I guess it depends. A difference of 0.1 can be significant depending on what your p-value is. But to err on the side of caution, you should retake all classes again. Can never be too careful. Cheers.
