Okay, so I am knee deep in my GRE workbook practice test/exercises & have a silly little question...

If you average your tests together - for example on all the exercies I've taken so far I average 83 percent correct - is there anywhere online that kind of gives you a ballpark of how that will translate when you take the test? (i.e. folks who averaged 83% correct usually fall in the 500-550 range etc)

I know it's an adaptive test so I'm not sure if you can make the kind of correlation I'm looking for.

Anyone know?

I think you answered your own question. Since it is an adaptive test, it is hard to correlate % correct with a score. When I was preparing I took a number of practice paper exams and the estimated score my prep book gave was wildly different then the estimated scores I was getting when taking practice computerized tests.

I would definitely try and take some computerized practice tests, I know my prep book came with a cd that could simulate the adaptive computer test.

The 2006 Kaplan GRE CDrom is pretty good for CAT style tests, and was pretty accurate about where I fell in the ranges (if anything, it put me a bit low) I used it to study back in 2005 (gee, thanks Katrina/Rita for delaying my plans AGAIN) and again for the 2008 GRE.

ETS.org has some good sample tests that you can download for free. (They write the tests.) FREE materials are always good.

GRE Powerprep® Software — Includes two computer-based GRE General Tests, sample Analytical Writing topics, scored sample essays and reader commentary, test-taking strategies, a math review, and test tutorials. It is sent to individuals who register for the computer-based General Test, or may be downloaded here.

Best of luck!

i didnt do well on my gre. BUT....someone from kaplan gave me really good advice(that i didnt take).

take the test over and over again till you're able to get the score you want 3 times in a row....then you're ready.

kaplan has CDs that will prepare you for the exam and give you scores. And when you register for the GRE you will get a CD from ETS.

good luck!

When you enroll for the GRE, ETS will send you a cd with some practice sessions and TWO free full length exams. Or you can download the software for free. This is your BEST asset.

I studied a bit, then took a full length practice exam from the CD. The exam on the computer software is adaptive, which is why its such an asset. The score I got was a very good indicator of which area (quantitative) I needed to study.

Then I studied for another month, using 2-3 books and focusing on the math. I used the scores and rankings from the practice books to monitor improvement only. THe morning of my exam, I took practice test #2 from the CD (I skipped the writing) so that my mind was properly warmed up and in the right mode.

The score practice exam#2 gave me was much improved from the first one I took, which was a relief and it was near identical to my actual score on the exam.

So I think the 2 free practice tests from the CD are the best way to predict what your actual score is. Good luck.
