hI ya!

I am currently trying to get involved in doing research at school (undergrad) but I am at a loss of where to start gathering info. My advisor is not interesed nor cares about directing me. Should I just start asking random professors?

Also I would like to do a summer internship. Do any of you know of web site that could send me in the right direction?

thanks!

Look at your schools department pages. They should have listings of all the faculty and a summary of their interests/work. Read through some, and pick out some stuff that sounds interesting. If you get into a lab just to do research, without being interested in the area of study, you will hate it. But then write an email or go visit the prof, and say you were interested in working in a lab, and you were interested in their area of study. It would be helpful if you had read at least the abstract to a few of their publications, so you could be able to cite what you find interesting, etc.

As for summer internships, there are quite a few out there. Here is a pretty good listing that I used for this summer: http://www.bio.cornell.edu/research/summer03.cfm There are plenty of others out there, and most big schools will have one. Just go to their science homepage and poke around.

hey there
for research if you have gotten to know a prof. just ask. Many who do research seemed happy to have interest from students. Also, you could go on your school's webpage and look up the department you would like to work in, then just email them.
Good luck

thanks for the responses, I guess I was just being shy and needed some encouragment. I emailed a prof today. 🙂
