So I'm writing an essay about why I want to be a DO etc... I've been capitalizing Osteopathic, but if I say "Osteopathic medicine," should medicine be capatalized...? Why don't I know this?? 😕
thanks 🙂

Because it's a proper noun, it takes the form Osteopathic Medicine. Also, I cheated and checked Nova Southeastern's website😉

All the schools' secondaries so far have not capitalized the phrase osteopathic medicine...I'm following their lead!

Why would it be capitalized?

"I go to PCOM, an osteopathic medical school."

"Do you attend an osteopathic or allopathic medical school?"

No caps necessary IMO

osteopathic I always thought was just an adjective, not a proper noun. Just my 2 cents

Funny you mention PCOM, their supplemental essay prompt begins:
"Noting the missions and objectives of the Osteopathic profession and PCOM, please describe ..."

I would normally NOT capitalize the O but now I'm having second thoughts. At the same time I have seen a few typos in secondary apps and disciplinary forms, maybe it really isn't that big of a deal. OR depends entirely on who is reading it. I'd like to think this wouldn't be a big concern for most docs.

Remember that the "b" in "bump" is in lower case when used to resurrect a seven year-old thread.
