silly silly question:

I'm in a cc and I'm transferring to a UC where I will apply to dental school from.

1)How does my cc GPA get counted as well my UC gpa?

2)I took some UC transferable science classes, will these be calculated in my sGPA? Is the sGPA just from Bio, O/G Chem, Phys, and Biochem? or does it encompass all science classes taken?

3)Sortof a correlary to the first quesiton, I took Gen chem in cc, but I plan on taking the rest after transfer, the units are different for gen chem at UC and CC. How do they factor both CC and UC into my GPA?

4) not related but, should I take a full year of Calculus or just stick with the 1 semester I have now? (i know it depends on where you apply to, but what did you do/planning on doing?)

Hi there, and don't worry, everyone needs to ask simple questions sometimes. By the way, congrats on transferring! I went from Cypress College to UCI.

1) The way your GPA will be Calculated in AADSAS (Dental School Application), is that it will just lump together every class you've ever taken, be it at the UC or CC.

2) There is a "Other-Science" section that is part of the sGpa that includes things like Math, Astronomy, Geology, etc - but this isn't part of the BCP GPA - Bio Chemistry Physics. Yes, as I said before, it doesn't matter where you took it, it will still be counted.

3) You'll have to take 2 quarters of Ghem at the UC to finish up the year series, and again, everything just gets lumped togeather to calculate the GPA. Quarter Units are different than Semester Units, so Semester units will get counted as 1.5 (or 1.25, can't remember), quarter units. So, your semester unit classes will weigh more for your GPA.

4) Most dental schools just need 1 semester of calc - and that's what I did. UCI requires that you either take a year of calc or half calc half stats, so I took stats. Many dental schools also reccommend stats, so that's a plus.

Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions, good luck!

Hello again! Each different school and class will calculate into your overall GPA equally. I would advise retaking the whole chem series, as I did when I transfered, because it makes it easier to keep up and know where your professor is at, but if you choose to just take the rest you have yet to take then it all counts equal. I personally didn't take a single semester, or quarter, of calc because I didn't want to. All most all dentle schools DO NOT require calc, at least from what I have seen. So I would just stick with the single semester, but that is me (keep in mind I hate math). Thus, I would say that ALL credits get counted equally into your GPA, unless you are talking about sGPA in which case it is all the chems and bios or you are referring to going from quater to semester units.
