Hi guys,

I would just like to know how much schools know about you as an applicant.

Stuff like:

-what jobs you've had, if any
-if you took out student loans
-if you have a house
-if you have a family
-stuff about your personal life, parents names etc
-what high school you went to
-etc

Basically, if its not on your app, can the schools find out, or is that illegal?

What about international applicants? Are they immune too?

I realize most of you guys would not know, but I mean if there is anyone hear who can possibly provide evidence then it would be greatly appreciated.

They aren't going to know unless either it's on your AMCAS or they ask it as part of their secondary (which is a possibility. I had several of those questions asked on a secondary) or you talk about it during an interview.

Some schools might run a credit check on you after acceptance, which would reveal any debt from student loans, mortgages, etc.

yeah, would like to get the opinion of everyone if possible.

There not going to stalk you. But you can expect a background check, the Fin-Aid will sometimes do a credit check.

Most of these things would be covered on primary or secondary apps.

Jobs should be listed in your experience section. Any full-time jobs should be listed and most people list part-time jobs too, even those unrelated to medicine. It goes to how you spent your time, maturity, life experience, etc.

-if you took out student loans
-if you have a house
Loans, no. House -- only to the extent that your address is on the application and they can look up the address. Who owns the property is public record but I've never heard of anyone bothering with such a thing.
-if you have a family

Optional. You may be asked in you have dependents.... otherwise, I think that they'll know only if you tell them.

These items are on the AMCAS but may be optional.

Thanks for this response, but this is not what I was asking.

For example, you state that one should list what types of jobs he/she has had in his/her app. If you decide not to list it, can schools find out? If so, by what method? SSN#'s ?

thanks.

If someone worked as a Vegas showgirl but didn't want to be judged on that basis -- no, the adcom is unlikely to dig around and find out. It is always possible that someone writing a LOR would know and spill the beans. It is also possible, but unlikely, that someone would look at your profile on Facebook, etc (more likely if a student were reading your application, I suppose) so you may want to consider what you put "out there" and how you set up privacy shields.
