Has anyone out there applied for this award for the coming year? It is offered byThomas Jefferson Dept of RadOnc. Applications were due 2 months ago and apparently they have not yet made a decision. Every week they tell me they will be emailing me by the end of the week. I would have to say this reflects poorly on the program in general. Does anyone have anything to contribute on this award or the TJ program in general.

Roy W. Howard Fellowship in Oncology

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco announces the availability of an annual fellowship for 3rd and 4th year medical students. The fellowship will support an 8 - 10 week rotation in the Department of Radiation Oncology at UCSF. It carries a stipend of $1,500. One fellowship will be awarded annually at the discretion of the department.

During the 8 - 10 weeks experience, the student will spend half of his/her time in the clinic, time interviewing patients, physical examination, and learning about the natural history, and treatment techniques of cancer.

The student will spend the other half of his/her time participating in a small research project. The findings of that review will be presented to the staff and residents. In some cases a paper may result from this research.

Prerequisite for the fellowship is completion of at least two years of training at an ACGME approved United States medical school.

does anyone else have any other input specifically on the Simon Kramer Externship? The application is so basic, and I was hoping for any more info on the topic. I found only one other SDN thread about the externship where a person hadn't heard about the decision even around May 9th -- this would be problematic for me, cause I'd like to start the externship in mid-May.

Anyone have any experience with it?

I decided not to apply for it this summer (may apply next summer, depending on clerkship schedule, etc) because I had already arranged to do other things. But, I did ask the person some questions about the start date, when decisions would be announced, etc and here is an excerpt from the response I recieved:

We usually inform the applicants by early April, or even earlier (end of
March) as soon as the committee makes the decision on the 2008 externs.
