simple question regarding attire of interview

At the very minimum, wear a sports coat. Borrow one from a friend, family member, etc. Or pick one up from a thrift store; you'll be surprised at what you'd find there.
Without a coat, you'll stand out like a sore thumb, at least at the schools where I have interviewed.

yes, were some sort of dress/sport coat. you dont want to show up to your interview looking like your going to some Junior High dance with just slacks, button up shirt, and tie

I agree with DPThopeful, definately try to borrow a jacket/sport coat. From the several interviews Ive been on so far, everyone dresses professional and wears some sort of jacket. You def do not want to be the only one without one, it will stand out in a negative way

I interviewed at Ohio University, which only required "business casual" (they were very specific about that in communications that even ties were optional). Most schools though seem to expect more formal conditions. When in doubt, dress up not down.
