Simulate vision loss...possible?

I'm working on my dissertation and I am looking at using individuals with a visual acuity of 20/20 or better. I'm trying to manipulate their visual acuity by using trial lenses sets, and manipulating the prescription to make their vision 20/40 or worse. Now this is just a thought I had, and I was wondering if anyone thinks this will work?

I don't think pre-optometry students are qualified to help you with this question, especially for a dissertation.
