I have just found out that I will be facing my pediatrics residency as a single mother. I was just curious if there were any sdners out there with similar situaions with any words of wisdom, advice, etc.

Thanks!

No similar situation or any particular words of advice. But I just wanted to wish you the best of luck.

I'm not a single mom, and it has been tough at times with 2 kids, so be prepared to really feel pulled. It's unclear whether your circumstances will be as a separated/divorced mom, or a new mom without a dad involved-these will bring up different challenges. If there's a dad that will remain involved and can help with child care it will be important to try to get a residency slot nearby. Otherwise, get a residency near family that you trust for child care (unless you can pay for a live in or au pair-and even if you can, it's still helpful-I wish I had family nearby). You might even consider trying to find a residency that will allow you to do parttime/job share (or find another applicant to co-apply with), or if you are going to have a newborn, putting off residency for a year.

Good luck!
