Looking for advice regarding away rotations for Peds as an M4. I’ve been told it’s a good way to check out other programs, but is it necessary to match at one of the more competitive programs? not crazy about doing them due to the cost and inflexibility of my 4th year schedule, but also don’t want to hurt my application. I’m an MD student, low 250s step 1 likely not going to be AOA. Asking due to a wide range of advice from faculty. Thanks!

Nah away rotations in the MD world are unnecessary based on the risk. It can help the medium candidates to get into a great program or good get into a great program, but aways can hurt you as well. not because you are bad, but if you run into one person who you rub the wrong way, maybe based entirely on personality, it could destroy your chances. You seem like a pretty good candidate so probably not worth the lifestyle strain and risk.

Lol don’t do it as a 250 USMD. You will be getting top interviews anyways
