Hey everyone!

I'm looking for some additional perspectives into which medical school would be best for my situation. For background, I am accepted at U of I and chose the Urbana-Champaign & Peoria track, and am AWPA at SIU, anticipating acceptance somewhere down the road (not to sound conceited, just solely based on stats + geographical location, etc.)

I definitely prefer a smaller-class size, evident in my choice of UC > Chicago. After visiting SIU, I preferred their Springfield campus over UIC, and think the PBL curriculum would be a good fit, but have not been to the Peoria or UC campus of U of I. Obviously, it would be foolish to have my heart set on a specific residency, but right now I am considering either neurology or a specialty from internal medicine.

I guess my question is whether or not a larger, more well-known, and prestigious (ranked ~50 vs. unranked SIU) school like UIUC would be advantageous over SIU considering my desire to pursue neurology or IM specialities. I realize ultimately it will boil down to Step scores, research, etc. for matching and both schools match into a variety of residency programs, but would attending U of I give an edge when it comes time for the match or fellowships opportunities down the road?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Edit: Mods, feel free to move this to school-specific if that's where it should be.

Do you want to do research? If so, UIUC is pretty strong in that regard.

I'm leaning more towards clinical medicine. My main consideration lies in whether SIU could be limiting for certain specialities, since it isn't as recognizable outside Illinois or the Midwest.
