Buffalo-
Holiday Valley and Kissing Bridge are under an HR. away.

UW- 45 min to Alpental @Snoqualamie; 1.5 hrs to Steven's Pass ($300 student season pass); 1.5 hrs to Crystal Mtn (ranked amoung one of the best resorts in the US); 3 hrs to Baker; 5 hrs to Whistler

I have heard OHSU has a very solid academic program plus Mt. Hood gets an average of 400 inches per year and has the longest ski season in all of North America. If I got accepted to OHSU and was waiting on other schools, I would definitely pick OHSU.

Loma Linda is pretty close to big bear

There is a small resort about 1 hour away from Colorado's school, and all the big ones are about 1.5-2 hours away.

Colorado, then you get the colorado pass for $400 and you get to go to A Basin (1.5 hrs), Keystone (1.5 hrs), Breckenridge (1.5 hrs), Vail (2 hrs) and Beaver Creek (2 hrs). All that for $400 is a good deal! Some of the best skiing I have done.

Other than those there is still Copper Mountain, Winter Park, Loveland, Berthoud, all still 1.5-2 hours away. Anyone who wants skiing should definately go to Colorado.

unfortunately colorado does not like oregon students

Lets try to keep the skiing resorts to the west where he real mountains are!

I would second JorUW. Seattle is 1.5 hours away from snoqualamie and stevens isnt too far away either.

Whistler blackcomb are also 4 hours north and you cant beat a board ride from the top of blackcomb that literally lasts 45 minutes from top to bottom! (high speed trams to top)

ps JorUW I grew up in Redmond (now Sammamish). GO WSU though😀

finally a thread discussing the REAL reason to choose a dental school!! i liiiiiiiiiiiiiike...

No thanks I prefer my powder light, dry and fluffy  Go Colorado!

What about UoP and Taho?

It takes 3 hours to get from San Francisco to Tahoe. And once you're in Tahoe there are a dozen or so good resorts to choose from.
My favorites are
-North Star
-Squaw Valley
-Alpine Meadows
-Homewood
-Heavenly
-Kirkwood
-Sugar Bowl.

Stay Away From Boreal. I alway got board of the place after an hour of riding.
Nothing like leaving the bay area at 500 getting to the mountain at 8, and riding till 3 and making it back home by 7.

It is a tough choice Tahoe or Colorado snow. They are both nice. You cant go wrong with either one. But Colorado has a better deal on the ski passes.

I also heard that there is lots of snow in the midwest but no mountains to do anything good with it.

Any body know about any mountains Michigan?

What about UoP and Taho?

Some areas of michigan get pretty good powder, like the traverse bay area, but it is hit & miss. You will need to drive a minimum of 3 hrs to get to a hill in the northern lower penninsula from either Detroit of Ann Arbor. I have heard of some nicer resorts in Canada which are only about 4-5 hrs away but I've never been. Still we're only talking about a 1000 ft verticles on these hills. Michigan, especially southern Michigan is mostly only good for park riding. There are a number of little places within an hour of UDM or UofM that will offer you this.

Now lets talk about the slopes near Vegas. I hear there are some decent places near San Bernardino. Anyone want to give any input/details.

agreed, you most def get a heavier snow out here in the PNW. It just gives you more of a work out😉 . I'm more of a back country ski-bumb rather than a park rat, but if you board, you're floating ontop of the snow anyway, right? Anyway, here's to snow!!! the last couple of winters up here have been brutal.

Oh! P.S. UW has the Vancouver Winter Olympics nearby in 2010. Roadtrip!

Pitt has a few within an hr and 15 mins

Come on people. Lets revive this thread. lets talk about the SoCal ski resorts, I want to hear peoples thought/opinions.

Anyone besides me going to Vail the first week in January?

Anyone besides me going to Vail the first week in January?

I'll be in Tahoe in two week then Vail the week after words.
I will also be at Vail the week before and many weeks after. Already been up a few times and it is Nice!

So-Cal skiing... There are a few good spots, but they are all quite a drive, and nothing like Tahoe or Colorado. I can't really comment too much on it, but the drive to Tahoe is worth it as opposed to Mountain High and Big Bear. Mammoth is about a 5 and 7 hour drive and worth it. Sometimes you can get lucky and have a power day at MH or BB, but most of the time it is icy.

I am going to miss all of this skiing when I move to the East Coast :'(

How long of a drive is it from Vegas to the resorts around salt lake city?
