Anyone have a good model skull that their med school uses or they found to be particularly cool.

I wanted to get one sub $1000 (yeah a lot), but don't know a good one that is EXTREMELY ACURATE and detailed, with every single foramen known to man on it.

Any suggestions, how is this one (Super 10) on this site?

Holmes,

What the hell are you going to do with a $700 skull? I don't get it.

My school loaned us a skull for use during gross anatomy. They were not models either, but the real thing. I didn't learn much with it, but was often seen walking around my apartment with it saying "To be or not to be...." 😀

😕 Have you tried looking at the book? It does tell you alot.... the skull is not that complex where you need that expensive of a model, unless its lined in 24k gold. 😕

Alas, poor Discobolus. I knew him, Horatio.

Tee hee he 😀

If you spend $700 on a skull you deserve to have your own one thoroughly bashed in with a baseball bat. Three things to consider.

1.When it comes time to learn the skull you'll only be able to spend a couple of hours on the bone structure itself. There's a lot of stuff inside the skull that you have to learn too. 😉

2.As someone else pointed out you can BORROW skulls from your school.

3.If you really must have a model skull in your apartment, just knick one from the anatomy lab like everyone else. 🙂

i gotta agree with all of the previous posters.....can you really justify spending $700 on a freakin' skull just to to learn all of the foramina? Plus, thats a lot of money to spend for a soon to be desk-decoration anyway

That's a lot of money for just a skull. Why not get a whole skeleton?

How about these?

I got one for Christmas one year when I was in college. You can add your own labels and add muscles or veins using cloth strips or pipe cleaners to help when studying.

I named mine Bonaparte. 😀

The plastic models I have seen are pretty crappy, the real thing is obviously best but very expensive. Just use Netters to study the skull, there is really nothing more you are going to learn from a Skull than you can get from Netters. My school had about a dozen real skulls that we were allowed to "check out" of the library and study from. I never used them but some people definitely did.

Maybe it was just my school. But the bone box's we could take home had a really nasty smell. Sort of deterred me from using it. It's best to study the actual bones that will be used on your practical exam anyway - I bet they'll be available to you 24/7. There's no good reason to buy bone models yourself other than if you find yourself in a "Brewster's millions" type situation.
