this might seem like a lame question, but i was wondering if i would get kicked out of an airport for sleeping there. assuming i have only carry ons. and how likely they will kick me out of train stations.

like napping or sleeping for the night?

like 8:30pm to 7:30am, i was planning to walk around and study for my GRE at the same time, how it prepares me for my interview is a completely different question and not the one in question here.

Just move toward an airline that tends to have more delays than others (Southwest, maybe?) That way they'll just assume you got screwed and let you be. 🙂

united is the only company to Lebanon, NH.

I figure... if you're wearing your suit, they wont kick you out... and it depends on the size of the airport - if it's a big one, they'll more likely to not care, if it's a small one (that closes for the night) you'll be surely out of luck...

USAirways is the only airline that serves LEB. You probably bought it through United but it'll be a Colgan Air operated for USExpress when you get to the gate. Anyway, don't count on sleeping at LEB they most certainly close the airport at night. Somewhere like JFK or ORD where there are always flights is a different story...

I take a lot of late-night flights out of airports and after about 10-11 pm, everything shuts down. I'd assume they won't let you past security with the next day's boarding pass, so you won't be at the gates. That means you'll be in the area in front of the gates, and much more likely to be subject to their vagrancy policy, especially at an urban airport. You could always call and ask.

I'm fairly sure that any train station in the northeast will quickly kick you out as it gets late and you don't move, unless you're in their fancy Acela Express waiting areas. I've been asked to move because I took up a table for three hours at South Station in Boston. 🙄

lol hahaa awww shot i guess i am out of luck, haha

now i wonder, doesn't dartmouth have something like a 24/7 studying place, lol i can study there for a night. like we have this ITS building at Rochester where it is open well 24 hours during the weekday

EDIT:

NVM, i found my solution:

http://library.dartmouth.edu/libhours/display.php?period_id=1005&shtml=2

lol yes, caffine all night long

I once slept over night in LGA couple years back. There was a huge thunderstorm so most of afternoon flights were canceled. There were about thirty poor college students including me rolling around the ticketing area overnight (thank god, I had wireless access and power outlet!!). But this probably wouldn't apply to OP's case. 🙂

watch your stuff though!

How are people honestly answering this question without commenting on the absurdity of you not getting a real night sleep before your interview? What's the point of even going to an interview if you're going to be a zombie for it? Why don't you skip the library and just sleep on a frat couch, that should work well.

i am not sure about you, but u do what you have to do. i am not complaining about my lack of dinero, but i am just doing what i have to do. i will attempt to employ a new sleep schedule (haha this polyphasic thing might come into use thank you guys) in order to compensate. furthermore, i am more or less enquiring about the day after the interview, as hosts can only provide for one day. i am sorry this seems absurd to you, but to me it is a real problem.

I've slept in the Miami airport several times on the way to the Bahamas. We had to stay outside of the security zone because we couldn't get our boarding passes until early in the morning. I just use my bag as a pillow, put my headphones on and pass out. Sometimes they make you move if they want to clean the area of the floor that you are occupying. The staff there has been pretty nice about it, though. Security leaves you alone and there are non stop coffee shops and whatnot. Generally there are well over 100 people milling around/sleeping on the floor at any given time of night. for a big airport you should be fine, but I'd guess that a small airport closes shortly after the last departure/arrival.

After my two rounds of interview in PA was completed, I had a flight the next day at 6am. I could rent a hotel ($60) and wake up at 3 am on that day, or save some money and sleep at the airport. I chose the latter.

After my interview, which was done at 3 pm, I hung out at the Philly 30th Train station until 11 pm, took the train to the airport and then hung out at the Philly airport until 6am. Very strange. I didn't know the airport closed almost everything after 11pm. I would move around every 2 hours. There are sometimes visitor sections. I would just travel to a well lit, crowded (2-3 people) area. After I finally boarded the plane, I passed out on the plance. Impressive enough for the airline waitress to even comment on it.

Make sure you sleep wherever you crash out. Some sleep is much better than none. Even if it is uncomfortable.

The library is a great idea; it is much better than the airport. Maybe you can put your stuff in a locker for a buck or two, so you don't have to worry about it. I highly recommend this, this is largely why I didn't sleep at the airport.

I got in. 🙂

Why don't you just ask your host if you can stay two nights?? I did it twice without a problem. Just do something nice for them, since they're going to the trouble of housing you for an extra night. Buy them a drink, give them a nice card with a starbucks gift certificate inside, make them dinner. Sure, these little gifts will cost you 5 or 10 bucks, but it's better than spending the night in an airport. Plus, you get spend more time with a student and, hopefully, learn a little more about life at that school.

How do these student host things work anyways? Do they assign you someone randomly? Is it an option available only to people who live far away (Will a school in New England grant this for me if I live in Boston)

To the OP: You mean to tell me you aren't going to take advantage of Hanover's awesome nightlife? 😛

Each school is different. Most schools will let you know how to find a host when they invite you to interview. They either give you a list, from which you randomly choose names to email, or they set you up with someone via a student host coordinator. Some schools, like UMich, don't advertise the fact that they do have a student host program. In this case, just email the admissions office to ask whether or not such a program exists. It doesn't hurt to ask, and it can save you a whole lot of money.

Thanks that helps a bunch. As you can tell - I haven't had the opportunity to partake in this endeavor.

A Tree that is what i meant lol haha, i don't pay attention to these things, sorry my bad. and haha i don't know i am just preparing for the worst haha. beside i don't mind staying up to study for gre, its not a big deal to me.

lol i am not a big night life person, i guess i am too shy lol *hides behind my corner

They won't kick you out. Anyone who's ever gone stand-by has probably experienced not getting on the last flight of the evening. It isn't comfortable (seats/kights/etc.) but you can get a few hours of shut-eye.

Got it! I posted before I read the whole thread.

Be careful though I think whether they will let you stay or not will depend on the airport....

Unless the airport is about the size of a truckstop they won't ask you to leave. The thing is, they won't necessarily let you sleep. Some airports will have security constantly ask you to move during cleaning and what not. The suit part does not frickin matter...in fact when I was flying a soldier coming back from iraq, wearing a suit was stranded in an airport all night. It is usually beneficial to just just to take the discounted rates if they don't give you the hotel for free.(Depends on if it is their fault or not) They won't kick you out if you have a flight though. They can't punish you for being early to a flight, or not having the money/time to go to a hotel for a couple hours. I've been stranded in airports so many times I can't count it........never got kicked out, just got inconvenienced....especially if I couldn't find a nice hallway.

dude i am totally joking...ever been to hanover? it's like one street...and two stores.

After I finished biking from Baltimore to San Francisco, I had to get back to the east cast somehow (and there was no way I was biking) so I flew out of SFX.

Long story short, I had nowhere to stay so I got there 8 hours early. They wouldn't even let me through security. So I spent the night in a booth at the pre-check in Burger King.

Met some interesting characters in the same boat and it was fine.
