I was given $1000 this year to do a family planning rotation at UCSF. It's really a great opportunity. You just have to figure out what you want to do and arrange it ahead of time so you can tell them what you want to do with the money when you apply. I don't know how competitive it was (i.e. how many people applied) but the letter said they granted 6 awards totalling almost $5000 to one physician and 5 med students.
