Hey guys,
So I'm in a bit of a confused state and would really appreciate your input on this. I'm a Canadian applicant and was originally interested in going into medicine. I have been accepted into an excellent off shore medical school...however, I have been researching things a little more and realize that as an IMG it will be really hard for me to get a residency. Not to mention that once I do become a doctor, (probably primary care), I'll have to pay off a 150k loan, work 80 hours a week and what not.

So bottom online, I'm now looking into dentistry. Med school starts in a month so I'm seriously questioning what to do. My question is, do dental schools take the fact that you're a med school drop out in a negative way? ie, if I was to attend a semester there and try and figure out what I want, is that something thats going to hinder my chances of being accepted into a good dental school?

Don't apply to dental schools. Let someone whose dream is dentistry get in and become a dentist not one who thinks well let me see if I can get into med school first, if not what the heck there's always dental school. so my advice to you is Study harder and get into a medical school you want.
And yes adcoms take into consideration the fact that you were a premed.

Your problem is not that you are a ms drop out but rather that you are choosing dentistry for the wrong reasons.

Why did it take you so long to decide that medicine was not the path you wanted? You were accepted, and start in a month, so why all of a sudden do you conclude it's not for you? Surely you knew that you had loans to pay off and work an insane amount each week. Also, what research did you do to know that a career in dentistry is what you really want?

I have researched both my options and I'm still conflicted....
I really think I'm going to enjoy studying medicine but I know that with dentistry I'll probably have a better lifestyle. So that's where my confusion lies...and I'm pretty sure that everyone who goes into dentistry/medicine/pharmacy/nursing does try to weigh these pros and cons....I'll admit that I'm doing it a lot later than I should have and that sucks for me

oh and ps: just because a medical school is not in the US does NOT mean that it can not be an excellent medical school. There's plenty of good schools in other parts of the world lol
