If you are a skinny dude(like me), go for it. It looks 100x better than a regular suit.

if the other ones look boxy then go for it. You want to have one that shapes to your body nicely. Also if your cut, it will look really nice and tailored. If your heavy weight, it might look a lil odd..

I was thinking about wearing something slim-cut for my interview, but then I went with this. It is modern, yet elegant and says "I know what I want and where I am headed in life". I excluded the ring because that's just too flashy and we all know that they are looking for humble students.

That just means the "regular suit" doesn't fit you. It has nothing to do with the fact that it is a classic fit and not slim fit. All suits should be tailored to your body, and even with a classic fit suit it should taper your body. Any suit that doesn't do that mean just one thing; it doesn't fit. The thing with slim fit is that, yes, if you are of a slimmer build, would require less altering but in general, for any suit to fit nice would require tailoring.

So, to answer OPs question, yes as long as it is not tight. Slim fit is fine.

Doesn't matter what kind of suit, just matter if it fits right

I doubt they care how great it fits you but I have one and used it for interviews.

lol thats not true, first impressions are everything, if you have a suit that fits your fat uncle, you are in trouble lol its a professional interview, why not look your best? i always hate when i see people in sloppy attires, it shows they're not prepared or don't know how to look in the mirror before they leave the house.

Regardless of what suit type you are wearing, make sure you have it altered. And have it altered by someone who does it for themselves (read --> not like a Jos A Banks alterer).

I bought two suits last night and at the check out, they were trying to tack on every single possible alteration and ran up a $200 bill.

F-that.

So, I took my nicely discounted suits and walked out the store.

Took it to my wife's alterations lady today, who promptly used pins to secure the jacket in several locations versus just one, and charged me about 20% less.

But the point is, get it ALTERED to fit you perfectly.

Since the dawn of time, clothing was meant to conform to every niche and curve of your body.

As a side note... the associate dean of something during my NYU interview was DAMN well dressed.

I guess I agree. I wear a suit that fits well, but I guess what I'm trying to say is I think the importance of the suit is exaggerated.

yes as long as it fits nicely on the body, doesnt have to be armani. the cuffs shouldnt be too long, it looks taky.

Don't get it if it makes you look like euro trash lol.

Seriously, I'm trying to tone it down with the suits to look more conservative. I own a bunch of suits (6 total) with three of them being Dolce & Gabana, Versace, and Hugo Boss along with a ton of Versace ties. I plan to wear a conservative-looking Calvin Klein suit to my interviews along with a plain looking tie.

Conservative is always safer than stylish for interviews.

dude, that's like saying "I've got a Ashton Martin, Rolls Royce, and a Mercedes Benz but I'm gonna take Honda today".

Edit: On second thought, it would be better to drive to an interview in a Honda but I'm gonna leave it up cuz it sounded good in my head 😀.

Difference is, an MB has a big star on the front and back, and a Royce has a... angel or something, haha.

While there are some people who are able to tell suits apart just from looking, most people, including interviewers won't be able to tell the difference between a Hugo Boss or a CK. They spend their time being Drs, or interviewing students, not looking up suits. Both are nice suits, and as long as it has a nice fit, there is no difference. Now, I guess the only difference is if your Versace has some crazy designs, or is pinstriped, as opposed to a solid CK then that's different, which I believe is what PreDent321 is saying from his post, that his "nicer suits" are less conservative, but because of the design (pinstripes, color) and not because of the brand.

Exactly lol.

Conservative gives the impression of humbleness whereas stylish (not always but many times) gives the impression of cockiness and arrogance. If the interviewer is conservative and you're dressed stylish, you are royally screwed. Can't go wrong looking conservative.

I have a buddy who drove to a job interview in his flashy BMW M3 convertible and ended up driving past one of his interviewers (who probably drove a Honda) in the parking lot while she was walking back to the office from lunch. He said the interviewer wouldn't warm up to him no matter how hard he tried and he was basically doomed from the get go. I told him he should have parked far away on the street lol.

I agree with you. Especially about the part about stylish gives off the impression of cockiness and arrogance (even though if you really aren't).

Haha. Being stylish conveys arrogance? Um, no. This is ridiculous. Wear what you want as long as its professional. Just don't BE arrogant.
