I have a friend (its is seriously not me) who has trouble with reading comprehension and being a slowe reader. He is very determined and is well qualified for dental school. He took exams in college with double time. My question is do you think he will be competative enough in dental school. Are there facilities in dental school that will accomodate him?

They will not hold any imparities against your friend in dental school. As long as he has good manual dexterity and the grades, then he is a good candidate for dental school. If he is accepted he can be given a ?special? consideration that will allow him to have more time on his exams and boards as long as his physician will sign off on it, in most schools anyways. I have a friend who is in medical school with a similar condition and they allow her double the time for exams when she needs it!

I dunno........it's kinda scary to go to a dentist that may mistaken your left central incisor as your right central incisor........😀

We have some dyslexia students at my dental school. They get double the exam time (if the exam is only one hour long, they'll receive two hours to finish instead of one for a regular "Joe Schmo" student). Two years ago, a student was allowed by the NBDE examiners to two full days to do Part 1 of the NBDE due to his dyslexia condition instead of the normal one day testing. This particular student end up doing really well on his Part 1 scores and a lot of his classmates felt that it wasn't fair that he gets two days and they felt he used his "questionable" condition to his advantage.

If you or a student has this condition, then they'll pretty much get whatever they want as far as receiving extended testing time. NBDE Part 1 included....they'll get two days to do Part 1.
