Hey guys,
on the equipment list for the USC practical exam a slow speed handpiece is optional..but on the operative list the RA burs (latch type for slow speed) are listed...so do you think that a slow speed would be available to us to use there or would we have to bring our own?

Also how many of you are brining a slow speed? i dont have one and i dont want to spend a %$^# load of money to get one...but i might have to does anyone know hwo much it costs at USC?????

Hi friend, I have an Interview next week too, I didnt want to buy it but after thinking about it I took the decission of buying it better, I dont wanna miss any opportunity given now. where are you going to be staying? do you live in LA?

hi,
I got interview call too.
I have 4 hole high speed handpiece ...in the list they have mentioned about 5 hole i talked with them and 4 hole handpiece is fine.
Slow speed in optional but in my opinion its better to get it.I don't know where u use this slow speed.
Correct me if I am wrong about the praparation they ask....class2,PFM, class3/class5 and MOD or 3/4....tough preparations.
They have only group discussion.....no personal interview and no written test.
See u all there
best luck.

well its up to you, I will carry the slow speed with me that day as well, I am gonna buy it since I really dont know what the difference is, I am not well documented on this matter, and maybe it might become handy at the examination, concerning the preps I thnik they have different Operative and Prostho preps, maybe add the 7/8 crown too, I am not sure but I have practiced it anyway, where do you live? I will be flying in next week.
Kind regards

Some people get trained mixing their preps with high speed and slow speed, because about the finishing, 4 sure is gonna help you a lot if you finish your preps with a slow speed, try and you'll see the big diference. Good luck everyone...

Hi,
I wanna let you all know how some people would like to use the slow speed hand piece. Some and not all use that to place the RETENTION GROOVES in the proximal box of a class 2 prep. The retention grooves should be placed at the Axio-facial and Axio-Lingual line angles and they extend from Gingival seat until the pulpal floor. ONE IMPORTANT THING, THESE RETENTIVE GROOVES SHOULD BE IN THE FACILAL AND LINGUAL WALLS AND NOT IN TO THE AXIAL WALLS. IF YOU DO SO, U WILL FAIL (BOARDS CRITERION).

So if anyone have any quesitons, buzz me

Hi,
I think even the 4 hole hand piece also works as far as i know. My friends who went there told me.

hi,
thank u international.
i guess USC has invited little over 100 candidates and few of them are bench candidates who have good idea about the preps.
does anybody know what do they expect from us in practical exam?
how good shoild be our preps?
