hey jhawkins, i'm actually dealing with this same choice right now. i've been back and forth about 10 times already.
as i see it, the pluses to nymc are location (i can deal with being near a city, if not in one, plus there's the potential to live in manhattan during your clinical years), the anatomy lab (not putting too much weight on that one), the match list (quality and location...a ton of matches in the northeast, and boston in particular which is where i hope to match to). i'm not sure what i think of the testing every two weeks, but everyone seems to do wonderfully on the boards.
as for slu, i really liked the students i met, they convinced me that you get excellent clinical training. also, i really liked the hospital, and even the facilities of the school itself. but i've never lived in the midwest, and i'm not sure i want to give it a shot (no offense to any midwest people!).
right now, i'm leaning heavily towards nymc because i'll be closer to family and friends, and possible a boyfriend if we make it that far. and, after telling an nyc friend about the semi-affordable housing in manhattan, she almost started drooling. so, if none of my waitlists / holds don't come through (5 in all...) , i'll probably end up at nymc. anyone else have helpful thoughts?
