Can anyone recommend a small yet affordable laptop for medical school? I like the Leveno Titanium Version but they are DAMN expensive.

I have a Dell 700m 👍 . It's a 12.1" widescreen laptop with an XBRITE screen (shiny like the Sony Vaio's.) Its pretty small and everyone is always really impressed with it. Dell is always throwing some amazing deals on this one so just type "Dell Coupon" in google or something.

Dell recently stopped making the 700m and started marketing the 710m. It's basically the same thing except the keyboard is white (as opposed to black) and the white lining on the cover is silver now. The only suggestion I would give you is to get the 8 cell extended battery b/c it lasts like 4.5 hours as opposed to 2 hours for the regular.

As for functionality and portability, I love it! I take it to class daily.

MacBook Pro is coming out, but that will cost $2000 minus student discount. It is dual-core! Expensive but worth it.

I agree, as far as Dell goes. Also, I recommend checking out Dell Outlet online. This is Dell's site for all of it's open box returns/scratch and dent, etc. All the machines are perfect and still subject to Dell's warranty. You can still customize them somewhat and the inventory changes all the time. If you see something you like you just have to jump on it because you don't know how long it will last. Right before Christmas, we purchased an Inspiron 9300 for my husband for work purposes (mostly). He wanted the widescreen which is why we went with that; if you are looking for something light, I wouldn't go with this baby, it is mammoth. We got it through Dell Outlet and have no complaints with it at all.

Good luck!

i second the notion of dell outlet and recommend an m140. i got one from the outlet recently for a great discount. the computer is reasonably small with great battery life and some nice multimedia features.

Also, check to see if your school's bookstore has a deal with a computer company, sometimes there's student discounts.

HP DV1000 all the way, I have one and its great. 14" widescreen and it will run Linux if that's your cup of tea. However, I'd wait a bit and get the HP DV1000t which will have the Intel dual core processor, integrated webcam, and microphone.

Do NOT make a move until you chose your school and review their policy. Most schools will either require you to buy or lease a specific laptop, or one of a list of laptops, or own a laptop that meets their own very individual requirements.

I know a guy at Case now who saved and bought himself and beautiful laptop -- then his parents surprised him with one when he got in -- then he was compelled to buy Case's. He now owns four computers and three laptops. And he's not the only one.
