For all you residents in small programs, what exactly goes on during call?

Kind of a noob question really, but I understand it from an intern point that even in the small hospitals you're gonna get admits every night, 5-15 or so. But for the smaller anesthesia programs, are there really that many codes going on, that many emergent surgical cases that need to be done? What are the other responsibilities that take up most of your time during call?

Getting the big call room. Getting dinner before the hot line closes. Responding to asinine posts on SDN.

...oh yeah----the gdam 0200 stat C/S followed by the 0615 request for a labor epidural.

Typically 4 hours interrupted sleep on an average night. Average 1-2 codes a month, 30% of which are pre-tubed.
