So my friends are staying in the same city we all go to college this summer because of work/internships. We are all doing our own things this summer and figured cramming a lot of people in the apartment would be a great way to reduce housing costs. So 2 of my friends live in a 2 bed/2bath apartment during the school semester where rent is $1200. One bedroom is being shared by my friend and her boyfriend. The other bedroom is being occupied by my friend who lives there all year during the school year. Now, my quarters are the living room... pretty small and it's kinda out in open/no privacy for me which I don't think I'll mind too much since I'm only there to sleep and the set up is for 2 months.

Originally we decided to split the rent evenly four ways- $300 each. But I feel jipped because I'm not in a bedroom. I mean we all are sharing bathrooms but is it too much to ask the friend with her own room to pay a bit more, the 2 sharing a bedroom to pay higher but less than the single bedroom, then I pay the least? I did 2 calculations but I might have done the math wrong hahah How do these proposals look?

Whole Bedroom: $533
Half Bedroom: $266
Half Bedroom: $266
Part of the living room: $133

or

Whole Bedroom: $500
Half Bedroom: $250
Half Bedroom: $250
Part of living room: $200

Utilities of course would be split evenly four ways. I'd like some opinions, but is that unreasonable to split rent up this way? I just want to make sure before I ask. 🙂

It is going to be tough since you already agreed to a different arrangement. How do the people that already live there divide it? If anything they should keep that the same then you give each of them some money since you will be making the living room unusable to them while you are there (and taking up bathroom time from at least one of them). The some money would depend on what you all agree on (which was already set at $300 by your agreement). I can't believe the two in one bedroom agreed to basically pay twice as much for the same room (unless they are different sizes and theirs is the bigger one).

Not saying any of your proposals aren't fair, just that I would be mad if you agreed to one thing and we relied on it, then you changed your mind.

The 2 girls who live there split it even. $600/bedroom each month. Well I guess I should be a little bit more detailed but we actually talked about this today and all 4 of us were not there when the discussion went down. The girl sharing the bedroom offered $300 each person deal and I thought "oh okay great!" but then it slipped my mind that I'm in the living room which isn't even a real room :/ The living room is pretty big and I wouldn't be making the entire room unusable. About half of it would be my room while the other half is used for TV watching/partying/whatever. Now that I think about it I guess I should just stick with 300?

Makes me wonder if she was planning on telling the other girl about the deal or was planning on taking your 300 on top of the other girl's 600 (with or without splitting your 300 with the other girl. Or maybe I'm just a suspicious person.
