Hi all, long time reader first time poster!

Curious to know how neuropsychologists/psychologists are using smart phrases in epic or other similar tools when writing reports. I have encountered neuropsychologists across the whole spectrum, with those who have nearly every section of their report templated with smart phrases to those who type everything fresh into word for each report. Asking for the purposes of understanding others' workflows and thinking about the balance between individualizing reports and efficiency.

I don't write reports, but for intakes and progress notes, drop down smart lists within note templates are my biggest ally. Nesting "***"s inside those lists means I can get paragraphs of tailored, accurate information written quickly and efficiently while still attending to individual factors.
Basically, if I find myself writing the same type of sentence over and over, I make a smart phrase for that sentence with asterisks or a drop down list to select from so I can do less repetitive work.

I have a good portion of my report templated with smartphrases/smartsets. There are plenty of times though where I will deviate from my template depending on the patient’s presentation and history. I work in a fairly high volume outpatient clinic within a health system, so I find them to be a very helpful tool for efficiency.

AACN actually has a helpful list of tips about this on their website: Electronic Medical Record (EPIC) Tips - AACN
