Just had an nbme q asking the effect of smoking on p450. So how does chronic smoking affect p450? Is it an inducer like chronic alcohol usage?
Many thanks in advance.

D--n man, I thought I had everything covered for p450 and you throw this question up. Answer would be appreciated. There are more inducers than inhibiters, so I would go that route if I had to guess.

ok so chronic smoking is an inducer (just like chronic alcoholism is the inducer). thanks for the feedback.

I came across the UWorld question that matches the concept in this NBME question! It's Q1797.

Patient demonstrates increased activity of enzyme in developing lung cancer (similar to smoking). Which enzyme is overactive in this patient?

it's p450 (inducer) -> full name is cytochrome p450 monoxoygenase -> answer they provide is microsomal monooxygenase
