Perhaps one of you can help:
My 4 year old sheltie died in October of liver disease. It was at the emergency hospital when the emergency veterinarian said it appeared her liver may not have been her only problem. He was looking at her pads of which more than 50% of the pads (digits) were pink and smooth unlike the rest which were black and rough as is normal. He said this was an indicator of a rare disease. Because of my distraught state I did not pursue his statement. I have since been wondering what disease he was referencing . He has left the practice and I have been trying to find information via the internet and have been unsuccessful. Can anyone give me a clue which could point me in the right direction? This has been bothering me and I would just like to know. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Even if he has left the practice, you should be able to obtain your dogs medical records. By law the records must be kept for 3 years (the length may vary in different states). Go to the veterinary practice and ask for copies of your dogs medical records, or ask the new veterinarian to please look in them and let you know what your dogs diagnosis is. You might have to pay for copies, but this is the quickest way to figure out your questions.

What you describe is a little to vague for me to guess what disease your dog had.

Thank You Chris. I will call tomorrow.

Loss of pigmentation can be caused by vitiligo, cutaneous lupus or infiltrative disease such as T-cell lymphoma. You might try searching those.
