Hi All, went through some rough times in covid and screwed myself over in my SMP. I have Bs and As peppering my 1 year SMP, but the main issue is my biochem grade. Had an A in undergrad and took it lightly, got a C+ taking it the first time. Took it again and got hit with some covid deaths in the family got another C+. Overall in the semester Third time I took it I got an A. The A replaced my C+ in the GPA calculation but the Cs show up in the transcript. I did ace my last 2 classes in the last semester i retook biochem for the 3rd time and nearly topped the class in both of them. I'm getting letters of reccomendations from both the teachers.

Will I have any chance this cycle? If not, will taking a year to get more solid recommendations + more clinical hours and a better MCAT grade help? Or am i screwed?

cGPA: 3.55
overall SMP:3.75
MCAT: 517: 129/129/129/130

Clinical experience: 250hrs

I'm in a bit of a weird situation and am not sure what to make of it. Do I have any hope?

Thanks for taking the time. 3.35 sgpa for undergrad. Will apply for DO, and how do md chances look? I'm an ORM in nj
Yea I think you have a moderate shot with that mcat (assume it's recent and no terribly low.ubsectiom scores) and I hope good ecs. You will very likely g t in do at minimum

Apply BROADLY to MD schools. I think you have a decent shot.

Have you applied before? I’m surprised you didn’t get in. If so, it could be a school list thing. Might be helpful to post if the schools to which you applied.I don’t even think you needed an SMP (unless career changer)

Why retake a 517? Sure, medians may have moved up, but a 517 is still 90th percentile or so.

Have you applied for the 21-22 cycle? There is no grade replacement in AMCAS. All of those grades will count. Why did you retake a C+? If you don’t have some shadowing get some before you apply again. Try posting your list here. People are always happy yo help you move schools on and off lists to make your list more realistic. Good luck as you move forward.
