Hi everyone,

I have been accepted into two different SMP's, and am unsure which to choose. I couldn't find a comprehensive listing of the benefits and drawbacks of the numerous SMPs online, so if anyone has advice I'd love to hear.

One program (MAMS at Boston University) offers curriculum in which the students take many of the same classes as M1 students. It's 1.5-2 years, but can be completed in 1 academic year plus a summer.

The other program is Columbia's M.S. in Nutrition. It's tangentially related to medicine, but the program has a high success rate in placing students into medical schools. It's a 2 semester program. The director personally called me offering admission so I feel good about this option.

Tuition is a consideration, and each program costs about the same per semester so I'm leaning towards a shorter program. But I'm open to the longer one (i.e. medical school courses) if it will give me a significant advantage.

This thread is dated but contains both of the programs. BU is listed as a 'real SMP', while Columbia is a Category 2 rank. Does this mean I would be more successful at BU as compared to Columbia?

Oh, and for what it's worth, these are my stats: B.S. Bio 2013, 3.56 GPA; M.S. Linguistics* 2015, 3.77 GPA, and I am 24 years old.
*I got enraptured with learning languages and traveling towards the end of my undergrad and wanted to explore that path a bit before committing to medicine- now I'm back on the right track ;-)

Thank you for all of your help!

Go with BU
