I feel like I've read something about this before, but I can't find it in the search.

If you get into med school after finishing an SMP, do the actual med school courses you took during the SMP count for any credit? Does it only work if you continue on to med school at the same place where you went for an SMP?

Any idea if this works at Boston or Tufts specifically?

They usually only count if you continue at the school where you did the SMP, because curriculum's can vary wildly school to school. Not sure how this works at BU or Tufts, though....

I'm hearing that in some programs your grade is "pass" out of the SMP, so people retake the same classes again to get honors. Sigh.

Beat me to it. I believe this is true at both EVMS and GTown.

Sorry, gotta correct you here - this is not the case at EVMS. If you honor or high pass a course your med masters year, it gets recorded as such on your med school transcript. 👍 And yes, you can do things like TA for histology and be a tutor for other classes, etc.

Anybody know how it works at Boston or Tufts?

I don't know about Tufts.

Boston University - your grades count as long as they are a B or above. With that credit, your M1 has the potential of becoming relatively lighter. You may look at it as a 5 year med school track. I just finished the program myself. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I have a few posts in a few diff threads about the program too.

Did you do it in one year or two?

I am doing it in one. I just finished the coursework a month ago, and will be submitting my thesis one month from now. It is a lab thesis though, not a library. I have been doing research for several years, and I did the lab work for my thesis over the last 9-10 months. Hence, I will be able to belt out the lab thesis in 2 months, since now I basically need to just write it up.
