1) Do you have to be an American citizen to participate in a SMP in the US?
2) I am a Canadian. Would doing a SMP in the US help my chances getting into an American Med school?
3) Is there ANY Canadian out there that is currently in or has completed in an SMP in the US that is now in an American Med school that could share some insight?

Thanks!

Nope, in this forum we're still waiting to hear from the first Canadian that is in a US MD school because of doing an SMP. Unless I missed something lately.

Lots of Canadians asking lately, though.

Best of luck to you.

Hey,

I was deciding the same thing in my 4th year of undergrad in Canada. I graduated in 2010 and ended up going to RFUMS' BMS program. It was the best decision I ever made.

You take 4 medical school courses with Chicago Medical School students (so if you get in, you get a relaxed 1st year of medical school where you are free to puruse yet another masters) You are also granted an automatic interview with Chicago Medical School (the medical school at RFUMS) given that you hand in your AMCAS on time.....

I am a green card holder/permanent resident but there were at least 6 other Canadians in my class. Since RFUMS is a private university where you were born, visa status doesn't matter. This year there were even more Canadians came to the BMS program.

You have a green card so you don't count as Canadian, for med school admissions. Did those other 6 Canadians get into a US med school? How do Canadians pay for med school in the US?

Great to know there's a Canadian SDN.

That was a quote, this is not something I wrote (I am American, and I was sure that Canadians go into SMPs and medical school thereafter. I found the quote in a google search)

I agree, wow Canadian SDN!
