Hello,

Does anyone have any advice on deciding between a post bac and a SMP? I've been accepted to and currently deciding between CSUEB's post bac program or Touro CA's MSMHS program that both start this coming Fall.

My current stats:
CGPA - 3.5
SGPA - 3.25

I have yet to take the MCAT and am planning on taking it this summer before either one of the programs start.

Thanks for the help in advance!

I would honestly go with the masters and ace it. cGPA is fine and sGPA isn't unredeemable. Get a good MCAT, and do well in the masters and you'll be fine.

I'm currently a student at CSUEB's post baccalaureate program. I would HIGHLY recommend going with Touro's MSMHS program. It offers you a shot at matriculating directly into their DO program, albeit you'll have to work for it. Historically 10-15 students are able to successfully take advantage of the linkage. You get more bang for your buck at Touro.

I'd vote the postbacc actually. A 4.0 would bump your GPAs within MD and DO.
I'm not sure how DO SMPs are viewed by MD.

Forget the graduate programs and just put all your effort into the MCAT. A good MCAT with those GPAs will get a good amount of interviews.

Not a bad idea either.

If you get a decent MCAT score (min. 500+ but probably a bit higher) and barring no red flags you should be able to get interviews and in somewhere w/o a post-bacc. Your GPA is fine for many D.O. programs.

I'd say at least a 505-506 because of the sGPA.

With those stats, I don't think that you need either...just a good list and MCAT score.

I've posted on the plusses and minuses of post-bac vs SMP. Do a search. But SMPs like the one at Touro are back doors into med school, and as such, I prefer them, even though they are more high risk/high reward.
