So I know there are a lot of these kinds of posts, but I wanted to also post my situation.

My calculated GPA upon graduation should be around a 2.95-2.99, and this fall semester my GPA was 3.87, bumping my current GPA to a 2.8. I expect a similar last semester so it'll be around what I stated above. I am a biology major with a chem minor who slacked off early in college and realized my life was crumbling midway through last year, where I tried to fix myself.

I have not taken the MCAT, but my plan was to work next year as a research technician/specialist at a university such as UPenn or JHU while taking advantage of my employee benefits to take 2 classes per year and hopefully do well in those classes.

So my question is, how much will the job experience and new grades help me? I understand most SMP programs require a minimal 3.0 GPA and a minimal 25-27 MCAT, and I plan on applying not the coming year, but the year after so I'll have an MCAT score, along with a new GPA from the courses I'll have taken. So the question is, does it matter even if I excel at these new classes? Will it push me over the minimal 3.0 for consideration? How much does working 1-2 years (hopefully sticking my name on a couple of papers) really help me? I know that GPA and MCAT scores are the major factors.

Another side question regarding the Drexel MSP vs IMS: is there some sort of entrance to the IMS program following the MSP program, or is it something I'd have to completely reapply for?

thanks for reading
