Hi,

i have a 3.6 undergrad gpa and was considering applying to a smp program like Georgetown and Tufts and was wondering if say I did not get a 4.0 rather a 3.5-3.67 in the smp would this greatly negatively affect me. I know a 3.5 isnt too bad since its a little less than an A- and that many medical students just have to get above 65percent. I was wondering if anyone had any info regarding how a medical school admission committee might view a 3.5 from a smp along with a little above 3.6 from undergrad? thanks.

No. No no no no no.

Why do you want to do an SMP? Why do you want an additional $70k of student loan debt? Are you spending too much time in pre-allo where the bogeyman says if you don't have a 4.0 you won't get into med school? Are you thinking an SMP is where you get ECs and LORs? (It's not.)

What's your understanding of statistics? How many standard deviations below the average accepted applicant's GPA (which is 3.6) is your GPA (which is 3.6)? (Hint: the answer is zero. You are zero standard deviations from the average GPA. That means you have an average GPA. Half of people who get into med school have a lower GPA than yours.)

Stop reading pre-allo, take the MCAT, max out your ECs, and apply to med school.

Best of luck to you.

If you didnt do well on the MCAT (which i dont think you mentioned) no SMP gets you around this.

Everyone says take things with a pinch of salt, but anything that happens in pre-allo take with a pinch of salt and 4 shots of tequila.

My question or concern is how well do you need to do in a post bac program before it becomes rather than a positive a negative. Would a 3.67 - 3.5 be a good gpa for a post bac like georgetown, tufts, bu, etc or is it necessary to get a 3.9-4.0 in order for it to be a benefit. thanks.

we are saying that you shouldnt do an SMP

If you rock the MCAT, you can just apply now

It varies by program and it varies by whether you're trying to get into the host school or elsewhere. It also varies by what mood the med school admissions app reviewer is in and how generally compelling the rest of your app is.

Seriously, what are you trying to do? Help us help you.
