Hi,

I have perfect GPA from a state school and a lower MCAT score. Would it benefit me if I did this MPH program in England or do a good SMP (1 year program where you take med school type classes) program in the US?

I was thinking since I have many months of international experience and I plan to help the underserved as a physician, getting an MPH might be beneficial to make my case to Adcoms.

But, doing well in SMPs demonstrates good grasp of medicine/science.

Which is a better option? Please help me out.

Thanks in advance for your help

England looks pretty cool especially if you go to a top university there. But ultimately medical schools are looking for how well you can do in their med schools and a good SMP can do the trick.

if your GPA is high and your MCAT is low what you need to do is retake the MCAT. SMPs are mainly desigend to help people with low GPAs and high MCATs and MPHs are designed to improve your chances at a career in public health. If you want a career in public health, BTW, an MPH can be a good thing to fill your year while you're studying for the MCAT.

Also, posting your exact stats would help. It might be that you don't need anything at all.

I agree with Perrotfish. Neither an SMP nor an MPH will help your situation, considering your perfect GPA. You'd be better off spending your money on a formal MCAT prep course and/or tutor. Only do an MPH if you want to learn about it.

only pursue a MPH if you feel the exposure/experience/networking/curriculum will help you in your career.

Neither will help you. Retake the MCATs.
